Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) is an evidence-based practice (EBP) designed to help people diagnosed with mental illness learn new skills and knowledge to help manage their symptoms and stressors.  You've likely heard people talking about it, or seen the big binder in your office.  It's possible you've even looked into the binder and thought Geez, there's a lot of good stuff in here, but no way is Joe working on this binder with me.  It looks boring!  Come to this training, then - we'll explore the wonderful, 11 chapter world of IMR and we'll learn how to make the material come alive for your clients!

Objectives:


  1. Participants will learn to assist clients in defining and setting recovery goals, understand how to help clients learn and practice skills, and how to structure sessions with clients

  2. Participants will have a basic understanding of how to apply this practice in groups

  3. Participants will receive a review of the IMR Modules

This course will give participants an overview of diagnoses most commonly seen in working with individuals who get services from RADIAS Health.  Participants will be able to describe the diagnosis system and will be able to identify symptoms of mental illness. If you are new to the field, or want a refresher on things you may have forgotten in college or grad school, this course if for you! 


  • Participants will learn about mental health diagnoses and symptoms as presented in DSM 5 

  • Participants will reflect on the stigma of mental illness and its interplay for people we serve 

  • Participants will discuss mental illness in the framework of cultural, social, political and racial perspectives 



  • Participants will work on maintaining empathy for the people we serve in order to reduce stress and compassion fatigue

Homelessness is becoming more and more common among the people served by RADIAS Health.  We offer this training to increase awareness, skill, and knowledge of available resources to support people we serve who are experiencing homelessness.

 

Objectives:

Attendees will be able to identify contributing factors to both short term and long-term homelessness

Attendees will learn strategies for engagement with people experiencing homelessness

Attendees will be aware of local resources available for persons who are in shelters and those who are living outdoors.

Length: 4 Training Hours

This half-day training will focus on learning suicide assessment and intervention skills. We will review the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale [CSSRS] that are located in our forms in Credible for all RADIAS Health Programs. We will learn how to administer the assessment while seeing clients in all settings. This training will eliminate assumptions that these forms are difficult to administer and use with clients. This training will also help with expanding your knowledge about the risks for suicide, assessing a client's suicidal behavior and ideation, and how to intervene. We will learn and practice safety planning.

Training objectives:


  • Develop wider knowledge of factors involved with suicide

  • Broaden one's experience with the Credible forms

  • Increase knowledge with assessing suicidal behavior

  • Expand skill set with crisis planning and assessment

  1. Participants will learn how the cognitive loop and how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are related to one another.

  2. Participants will have an understanding of the role of CBT in treating Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders.

  3. Participants will be able to describe core concepts and how to apply CBT principles in their work, including how to form a basic CBT case conceptualization.

  4. Participants will have an understanding of cognitive restructuring and the ABC framework.

  • Participants will increase their understanding of the definitions related to the LGBTQ+ community  

  • Participants will review terminology pertaining to sex, gender identity, gender expression, gender role, and orientation - and the impacts on the lives of people who identify as LGBTQ+ 

  • Participants will become familiar with historical events pertaining to mental health, historical criminalization, social rights movements, and civil rights within the U.S. 

  • Participants will gain understanding of current events 

  • Participants will review common barrier and corresponding interventions pertaining to social, medical and systemic factors 

  • Participants will become familiar with some of the health care services in the LGBTQ+ community 

  • Participants are encouraged to explore their own biases related to this subject 

  • Participants are encouraged to consider their role as an ally or as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and their work with individuals served
