Psychiatric medications are often used in the management of mental health and substance use disorders. Various medications affect mood, attention, behavior, and thought processes. This training will provide an overview of commonly prescribed medications, what they are used for, and associated side effects. This training contains significant medical terminology

Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) is an evidence-based practice (EBP) designed to help people diagnosed with mental illness learn new skills and knowledge to help manage their symptoms and stressors. You've likely heard people talking about it, or seen the big binder in your office. It's possible you've even looked into the binder and thought "Geez, there's a lot of good stuff in here, but no way is Joe working on this binder with me. It looks boring!" Come to this training, then - we'll explore the wonderful, 11 chapter world of IMR and we'll learn how to make the material come alive for your clients!
Objectives:
- Participants will learn to assist clients in defining and setting recovery goals, understand how to help clients learn and practice skills, and how to structure sessions with clients
- Participants will have a basic understanding of how to apply this practice in groups
- Participants will receive a review of the IMR Modules

This training will provide an overview of crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation strategies through early intervention and nonphysical methods for preventing and managing individuals experiencing a crisis. The course will include discussion of: the crisis development model, staff's attitudes and approaches, non-verbal communication, verbal intervention, precipitating factors of a crisis, importance of developing rapport and knowing clients' history, environmental assessment, rational detachment, and follow up after a crisis. Staff will also learn personal safety techniques in the event a strike or grab occurs during a crisis situation. A post-test will be given to all participants at the end of this training.

This half-day training will focus on learning suicide assessment and intervention skills. We will review the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale [CSSRS] that are located in our forms in Credible for all RADIAS Health Programs. We will learn how to administer the assessment while seeing clients in all settings. This training will eliminate assumptions that these forms are difficult to administer and use with clients. This training will also help with expanding your knowledge about the risks for suicide, assessing a client's suicidal behavior and ideation, and how to intervene. We will learn and practice safety planning.

Participants will be able to describe the diagnosis system and will be able to identify symptoms of mental illness. If you are new to the field, or want a refresher on things you may have forgotten in college or grad school, this course if for you!
- Participants will learn about mental health diagnoses and symptoms as presented in DSM 5
- Participants will reflect on the stigma of mental illness and its interplay for people we serve
- Participants will discuss mental illness in the framework of cultural, social, political and racial perspectives
- Participants will work on maintaining empathy for the people we serve in order to reduce stress and compassion fatigue
