Description:
This training explores the role of the Peer Recovery Specialist in the service delivery system, while also helping participants better understand personal preferences, biases and stigma that may impact the work we do with people we support.
Learning objectives for participants:
- Participants will be able to identify individual preferences in thinking style, learning style, and other considerations that may lead to biases in working with persons served
- Participants will develop an increased awareness of stigma involved in experiencing a mental illness, as well as stigma experienced by Peer Recovery Specialists
- Participants will be able to identify strategies to reduce stigma and biases in work with persons served
- Participants will be able to identify how the unique lens of the Peer Recovery specialist contributes to recovery in persons served, as well as how this lens contributes to how all team members view those with lived experiences of mental illness and/or substance use disorders
