This training allows participants to learn and practice the evidence based practice of motivational interviewing.

1. Participants will be able to describe the following motivational strategies and techniques: Reflection, Affirmation, Summary, and Open-ended Questions.
2. Participants will learn how to identify, elicit and respond to Change Talk
3.  Participants will learn effective ways to provide information.

Fran is a Licensed Psychologist who worked for RADIAS and ReEntry House from 1984 until 2017. She now conducts training for various agencies, including RADIAS on mental health-related topics. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. She also runs online support groups for cardiac arrest survivors and their families and is a Leave No Trace Master Educator.

Length: 6.5 Training hours

This course will provide participants with an overview of trauma including the impact on the brain, body, and lives of the individuals who experience it. We will discuss the prevalence of trauma and common trauma responses. We will review characteristics of trauma informed providers the principles of trauma informed care. This training includes practice techniques for use with individuals you serve.

Objectives:

·      Have an understanding of trauma and trauma reactions
·      Have the ability to identify and implement trauma informed service delivery strategies.

Alyssa has over 25 years of experience working in behavioral health, including direct service delivery, systems planning, and program management at both the County and non-profit level. She has provided training to services teams and organizations within the metro area, as well as presenting at several national conferences. Training topics have included Trauma Informed Care, Crisis Assessment and Intervention, Ethics, and a variety of topics related to the delivery of Psychiatric Rehabilitation services. Within her current role, Alyssa oversees a variety of programs spanning from ACT and First Episode Psychosis programs to Waivered services and housing support services.   She is a trained ACT (TMACT) Fidelity Reviewer.

Julie has over 25 years of experience working in behavioral health in various leadership, project management, project development, and training roles. She has conducted clinical trainings since 2004. Currently she provides several clinical trainings to RADIAS staff on a recurring basis. Training topics include Trauma Informed Care, Civil Commitment, Family Psychoeducation, and Compassion Fatigue. She has presented at the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Programs Annual Conference in Duluth. Julie has been an ACT Team Leader and oversees ACT teams in her current role at RADIAS. She is a trained ACT Fidelity Reviewer.

Let's face it - everybody has heard of this thing called CBT.  Now is your chance to learn about what it actually is and ask the questions you were afraid to ask.  Trust us, you're not the only one only pretending to know what the cognitive loop or cognitive restructuring is - this training will be open to all questions!

Objectives:

 

    1. Participants will learn how the cognitive loop and how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are related to one another.

 

    1. Participants will have an understanding of the role of CBT in treating Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders.

 

    1. Participants will be able to describe core concepts and how to apply CBT principles in their work, including how to form a basic CBT case conceptualization.

 

    1. Participants will have an understanding of cognitive restructuring and the ABC framework.

Rob has worked with RADIAS Health for 16+ years and currently works as a therapist on the Ramsey Blue ACT Team.  He has experience working in ACT as a therapist for 8+ years and also worked in the RSS program in both supervisory and counseling capacities for 8+ years.  He has been licensed as an LPCC for 9+ years and has been doing trainings within and outside of RADIAS Health for 4+ years.  Topics include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Illness Management and Recovery, Motivational Interviewing within ACT, and Non-violent Crisis De-Escalation.

The concept of Person-Centered Care is integral to how RADIAS approaches work we do with people we serve. This training provides a broad overview of the Person-Centered Approach in supporting persons served.

 

Participants will be able to:

 

    • Understand the context of person-centered care in Minnesota's systems

 

    • Be aware of examples of person-centered language (as well as language to avoid)

 

    • Practice using several tools to provide a person-centered approach

Brooke Schultz has worked for RADIAS since 2004.  She loves training new and existing employees in a variety of subjects relevant to effectively supporting persons served by RADIAS.  Brooke does training in several areas related to person-centered thinking, integrated treatment, and supporting people who have Borderline Personality Disorder.

Objectives:

 

    • Participants will have a better understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder, and will be able to outline the philosophy and foundation of DBT.

 

    • Participants will learn and practice validation strategies to assist people who experience significant dysregulation.

 

    • This course will provide a basic understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder. It will outline the philosophy and foundation of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and highlight the skills and practice relevant to the participants’ practice. Participants will work together to determine validation strategies and practice/role play them.

 

Brooke has worked in the behavioral health services since 1994 in various roles, including supportive housing, case management, therapy, program management, clinical supervision, and agency leadership. Brooke has provided trainings within and outside of RADIAS since 2007. Topics have included Conceptualization of Borderline Personality Disorder and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Concepts of Person-Centered Planning, Treating Co-Occurring Disorders, Fundamentals of Mental Illness, and Compassion Fatigue.

Laura has worked for RADIAS Health since 2007.  She worked with clients with Borderline Personality Disorder, and other diagnoses, for 9 years in the RADIAS Health RSS program.  She has provided adherent individual and group Dialectical Behavioral Therapy since 2015 through RADIAS Health’s DBT program.  Laura also provides outpatient therapy and leads several outpatient therapy groups, including an advanced, aftercare DBT group for clients who have graduated from an adherent DBT program.  Laura is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™.  Laura co-facilitates the Introduction to Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills training and leads the Applied DBT Skills training.

Presenter:  Patty Lauer-Roberts

Length: 4 Training Hours

This half-day training will focus on learning suicide assessment and intervention skills. We will review the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale [CSSRS] that are located in our forms in Credible for all RADIAS Health Programs. We will learn how to administer the assessment while seeing clients in all settings. This training will eliminate assumptions that these forms are difficult to administer and use with clients. This training will also help with expanding your knowledge about the risks for suicide, assessing a client's suicidal behavior and ideation, and how to intervene. We will learn and practice safety planning.

Training objectives:

 

    • Develop wider knowledge of factors involved with suicide

 

    • Broaden one's experience with the Credible forms

 

    • Increase knowledge with assessing suicidal behavior

 

    • Expand skill set with crisis planning and assessment

 

Patty has worked for RADIAS since 2014.  She is the director of RADIAS Health Outpatient Clinic and DBT Clinic. She loves training new and existing employees in a variety of subjects relevant to delivering services to populations served by RADIAS.  Patty does training in suicide risk assessment and teaches a class about DBT at the University of Minnesota in the Integrated Behavioral Health Program.”
