This training will provide an overview of crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation strategies through early intervention and nonphysical methods for preventing and managing individuals experiencing a crisis. The course will include discussion of: the crisis development model, staff's attitudes and approaches, non-verbal communication, verbal intervention, precipitating factors of a crisis, importance of developing rapport and knowing clients' history, environmental assessment, rational detachment, and follow up after a crisis.

 

Objectives

  • Participants will have an understanding of how to continually assess safety and potential crisis within the course of their work.
  • Participants will have an understanding of how to use verbal and non-physical de-escalation to increase safety in crisis situations.
  • Participants will have an understanding of ways to respond should their physical safety be compromised.

Learn the fundamentals of the IPS model and how to effectively provide employment services to individuals served by ACT teams.  This training will cover each of the eight principles of IPS and review evidence for the model. We will explore how employment helps individuals with their recovery, even if they continue to experience mental health symptoms, substance use disorders, homelessness, or other issues. We will use a case example to demonstrate some of the principles of IPS.

 

Objectives

  • Understand the IPS Model and Supporting Research
  • Have ability to apply the practice principles to individuals currently served
  • Distinguish between IPS and other less effective employment models for individuals on ACT teams
